"""""The floundering U.S. nuclear industry just got a bit of good news: Utah is considering building two new nuclear reactors.
Blue Castle Holdings Inc. has signed a memorandum of understanding with Westinghouse that could eventually lead to the construction of two AP1000 nuclear reactors. The two reactors have an estimated cost of $10 billion and an estimated operational date of 2024.
If constructed, Blue Castle says the reactors will increase Utah’s electricity generation capacity by 50 percent, which would replace the power lost with the retirement of a few coal plants in the state.

The announcement is important because building new nuclear reactors in the United States has been a struggle, to say the least. There are five other reactors under construction – two in South Carolina, two in Georgia, and one in Tennessee. All have suffered delays and unexpected cost increases.

Demonstrating the ability to build new advanced nuclear reactors like the AP1000 is critical for the industry’s long-term health. But it is also important for the U.S. as a whole because nuclear power is the largest source of carbon-free electricity in the country.
And unless the nuclear industry can deploy more reactors, greenhouse gas emissions will rise as natural gas replaces some lost nuclear capacity. Consider this: there are 100 nuclear reactors currently in operation in the United States, and 95 of them are more than 25 years old. More than half are approaching the end of their original 40-year licenses, although many are being extended for another 20 years.
Still, the U.S. is going to have to figure out a way to replace around 100 gigawatts of nuclear generation by 2050. As it stands, only 5.6 gigawatts are slated to be completed before 2030, with perhaps another 2 gigawatts if the Utah plants move forward.""""""

 Aug 30, 2006:
California Senate passes Global Warming Solutions Act

On this day in 2006, the California State Senate passes Assembly Bill (AB) 32, otherwise known as the Global Warming Solutions Act. The law made California the first state in America to place caps on carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, including those found in automobile emissions.

The Global Warming Solutions Act became law thanks to an alliance between the state's Republican governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and its Democratic-controlled legislature. The bill's passage solidified California's role as a leader in enacting legislation aimed at combating global warming, or the gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere due to the so-called "greenhouse effect" caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. California--which represents 10 percent of the nation's automobile market and is known for its struggles with air pollution--took the lead early in setting stricter fuel emissions standards than the federal government's.

Despite his professed enthusiasm for the Hummer, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) known for its prodigious size (and prodigious emission of greenhouse gases), Schwarzenegger sought to uphold his state's pioneering legislation regarding automobile emissions, passed during the tenure of his predecessor, Gray Davis. That law, AB 1493, required the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to regulate greenhouse gases under the state's motor vehicle program and gave automakers until the 2009 model year to produce cars and light trucks that would collectively emit 22 percent fewer greenhouse gases by 2012 and 30 percent fewer by 2016.

The Global Warming Solutions Act went even further, calling for an overall 25 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions (or to 1990 levels) by 2025, a timetable that would bring California close to full compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, an international climate-change treaty signed in that Japanese city in 1997. Even after Schwarzenegger signed AB 32 into law in September 2006, California faced an uphill battle to enact these new standards against the resistance of the automotive industry, backed by the administration of President George W. Bush. Automakers had historically resisted increases in fuel-economy standards, as stricter standards usually require an overhaul of their production methods to make cleaner and more fuel-efficient vehicles. The tides turned, however, with the presidential election of 2008, and in 2009 President Barack Obama announced new nationwide rules on auto emissions standards, bringing them into line with those mandated by California.

Another example of how a singular initiative, once effected and given the time and place to demonstrate its cause-and-effect intentions in a positive way, can influence implementation on a larger scale. Its impact on the economy, pollution, and the focus on Climate; The Conversation---makes this worthy of continued enthusiasm.

""""""Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles could soon gain ground on electric cars in the race to develop zero-emission cars, according to a new report.
The auto industry is seeing a convergence of factors that make fuel cell cars more viable, according to the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis.

Major automakers are pushing the technology. Hyundai began leasing its Tucson fuel cell crossover in Southern California earlier this year, targeting the handful of communities that have hydrogen fueling stations. Toyota and Honda plan to bring out their first mass-market fuel cell vehicles next year.
UC Davis transit experts say the key to this rollout is building clusters of hydrogen stations in urban and regional markets.
“We seem to be tantalizingly close to the beginning of a hydrogen transition,” said Joan Ogden, a UC Davis environmental science professor and director of Sustainable Transportation Energy Pathways. “The next three to four years will be critical for determining whether hydrogen vehicles are just a few years behind electric vehicles, rather than decades.”

The researchers calculated that a targeted regional investment of $100 million to $200 million in support of 100 stations for about 50,000 fuel cell vehicles would be enough to make hydrogen cost-competitive with gasoline on a cost-per-mile basis. And that investment is poised to happen in at least three places: California, Germany and Japan. California, for example, plans to spend $46 million to build 28 hydrogen fuel stations.

Also helping pave the way for the zero-emission cars are the continually declining expenses for the development of fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen station components, the report says. Ample low-cost natural gas for making hydrogen also helps.

Once people get the chance to see and drive the cars, consumer acceptance should be good, Ogden said.
“Hydrogen fuel cell cars offer consumer value similar or superior to today’s gasoline cars,” Ogden said. “The technology readily enables large vehicle size, a driving range of 300 to 400 miles, and a fast refueling time of three to five minutes.”
Other factors powering adoption of the hydrogen cars include:

—Consumer incentives such as vehicle purchase subsidies, tax exemptions, free parking and access to freeway carpool lanes.
—Global public funding of $1 billion a year for research and development of hydrogen cars and infrastructure. Moreover, UC Davis calculates that automakers have spent more than $9 billion on fuel cell development.
Near-term prospects for plentiful, low-cost hydrogen are good because of the boom in natural gas. The researchers said that cost effectively producing low-carbon hydrogen from renewable sources holds promise for greater greenhouse gas emission reductions.
But Ogden said fuel cell vehicles still face many bumps in the road.
“Hydrogen faces a range of challenges, from economic to societal, before it can be implemented as a large-scale transportation fuel,” Ogden said. “The question isn’t whether fuel cell vehicles are technically ready: They are. But how do you build confidence in hydrogen’s future for investors, fuel suppliers, automakers, and, of course, for consumers?”

DRIVEN...

Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show...(the opening lines of David Copperfield as written by Charles Dickens;inspired by MTM). Or at least this ACCOUNT will, perhaps, have a reflection on whether I'm going to be the hero in my own life.

Yesterday the moon was blue,
and every crazy day brought something nwe to do,
I used my magic age as if it were a wand,
and never saw the waste and emptiness beyond;
The game of love I played with arrogance and pride
and every flame I lit too quickly, quickly died;
The friends I made all seemed somehow to drift away
And only I am left on stage to end the play.
There are so many songs in me that won't be sung,
I feel the bitter taste of tears upon my tongue,
The time has come for me to pay for yesterday
When I was young.   YESTERDAY (When I Was Young)~~~Glen Campbell

With his core essence of sexuality overcoming whatever sense of self-control he would have otherwise possessed, he forcibly grappled with her hair, and with his right arm, slipped his right hand under her right thigh and while doing so sensed the wetness of her oozing honeypot---in a way that had left a moistened streak along his forearm betraying a glistening patch of wetness, to where his right hand found the delightful female specimen's  strong and sturdy left upper thigh, and placed an unforgiving grip onto it where with a forwarding leveraged heave, was able to husk this delight over on her front side so that her bountiful breast were now spread beyond the sides of her torso giving a glimpse of how the bounty of her womanhood overflowed.

Such bounty would  assuredly feed and nourish the offspring for which her womb would have been blessed with. Her sense of womanhood would have this trough of sexuality desire to have such repeated seeding, so as to have offspring to proliferate the Earth.

But even more pleasing to the sight of this lion, looking to put purpose in his pride, whose core essence was now being taken to an even more heightened level of intensity, was recognizing the sexual pleasure-potential of penetrating the anal opening which was now being subtly suggested by the pillowy mounds that enticingly defined a buttocks that begged to have the delights of its fruits known, as if picking and chewing into the apple from the tree of knowledge.  The thought racing through this hunter's mind---was the act of penetration; the thrusts, and the rapid repetitions of the poundings.  Such preoccupations had his engorged man-tool already oozing with a froth.

Without any kind of announcement of his intent, with nothing more than the frothing which was sitting at the tip of his man-tool, this Satyr-bull's instinct had him mounting his anxious but willing essence-of-pleasure, and with the determination of a well-placed ram-rod, drove his engorged jack-hammer into her wanton anal opening.  The sensations, for the both of these two willing sexual adventurers, were to realize such heightened levels that were never heretofore realized. For the willing submissive femme, it went in so hard, thick, and deep, that as she screamed, every muscle in her body seized; spastic, and  tightened. The willing submissive's buttocks, besides lifting the Satyr-bull an additional inch or two from the sleigh-bed mattress, actually presented more muscle-toned flesh to wrap itself around his now fully extended manhood.  Extension that he heretofore was not aware of; was now evident.  Her eyes, immediately bulging from her sockets as she was emitting these deep ominous and Inquisition-torture-chamber throated screams, had the lids of her eyes now closing and was mentally trying to get her psyche into some kind of sanctuary; some kind of retreat---knowing that this Dominant would just continue to probe, thrust, and pound this source of core-essence-pleasure until climactic ecstasy was realized.

He on the other hand, was still trying to come to terms with the multiple levels of sensations that he had derived---from his first thrust.  His manhood was pulsating.  Every nerve-ending that was exposed during that first thrust in,was now having more nerve-endings screaming with delight, as a now thicker manhood was about to be drawn back out with the expressed intent to immediately send this pleasure seeker back into the anal opening that he now knew was going to be even more exhilarating than the previous pile-drive.  As he sent his man-tool in, and then back out, again, and again, while he heaved---and he moaned at the near convulsiveness of the sensations, his submissive princess was screaming, moaning, and clutching at the bedsheets with each deepening and excruciatingly painful thrust, wondering if this madness; his man-tool---would ever cease.

Work In Progress...

An October To REMEMBER Part I

Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show...(the opening lines of David Copperfield as written by Charles Dickens;inspired by MTM). Or at least this ACCOUNT will, perhaps, have a reflection on whether I'm going to be the hero in my own life.

I'm a bitch I'm a lover
I'm a child I'm a mother
I'm a sinner I'm a saint
I do not feel ashamed
I'm your hell I'm your dream
I'm nothing in between
You know, you wouldn't want it any other way~~~"I'm A Bitch I'm A Lover"; Alanis Morissette

I truly don't even know where to start with this one. The thoughts and the memories having to do with events would have the most gifted Skinner Psychoanalyst have their heads spinning. One of the things that September would represent for me, was the cut-off-month of my TRIAL WORK PERIOD(TWP), with the Social Security Administration. The TWP is the nine-month free-for-all, if-you-will, that the SSA allows for those on a benefit program, to work and not suffer any conflicts with their benefits. For those nine months one is pretty much given a blank-check on income accrual. However, at the end of the ninth month, the microscopes and the abacus is brought out and placed on the table. In knowing all of this, I attempt to arrange in the middle of September, to make an appointment with the local SSA office. With the wheels of bureaucracy being what they are, not well-greased, the appointment isn't actually effected until Tuesday 11 October 2011; not good. I do not want to do anything that will put my SSDI in jeopardy to be discontinued. Realizing that getting the Powers-to-Be to be able to sit down with me at the ECBOE, and effect the details of what has to be done to avert a discontinuation of my benefits, will be a tall order.

Even in the lengthy month of this October, I know I am going to have take some unilateral surreptitious actions to dodge this TWP cut-off bullet. The cut-off on a monthly basis is $1000.00. And October, as Fate would have it, is like the longest October in 823 years!! Based on my rate-of-pay @ 20hrs/wk~~~I am IN TROUBLE. In the long term, I need to get my rate-of-pay reduced. I don't want to have the hours-per-week reduced because that will have a counter-productive effect on my family-coverage health-insurance plan. Getting the rate-of-pay reduced, will take weeks---so this is what I started doing, even before my meeting with Paul B. of the SSA did actually take place.

Starting Monday 10 October 2011, and following every week throughout the rest of October, I did as shown: Monday and Wednesday(full-time days), I would punch-in at 08:30AM. Then for lunch, I would punch-out for 13:00PM. When I came back from lunch, I wouldn't punch in. Then, when I left for those days, I never punched-out.

On my Thursday part-time-day, while I was in there for four and one-half hours working, I NEVER punched-in, or punched-out. Total paid work-hours for the week=EIGHT. Because I do not want any nail-biter situation with the SSA, I followed this pattern every week throughout the remainder of October.

The pressure-release-valve development that did materialize from a mid-October meeting with the commissioner of the ECBOE, was that in the third week of October I received word that my rate-of-pay was reduced. The reduction that is now in effect, is such that I should be able to punch the clock for all of the hours I work, hold onto the family health insurance plan, and most importantly, hold onto the bedrock of our household income, my SSDI.

The whole experience with the SSA has been fraught with anxiety. It is an income that I have been paying into, all of my life, but the administration overseeing the funds, treat you as if you are doing something scandalous in seeking and having these monies. This would included the period of time when I was drawing a stipend from AmeriCorps Buffalo when I was doing the volunteer work @ The Belle Center. It is my prayer that this recent development with the rate-of-pay modification will finally give me some peace-of-mind---at least in this segment of my life.

Wednesday 12 October 2011, was a DC current---kind of evening!! It was new, it was challenging, and it was interesting!! Slated in the evening was this pivotal fund-raiser for the Erie County Executive Democratic candidate Mark Poloncarz. It was to take place at The Colter Bay on Delaware Ave in downtown Buffalo, NY. While this was a favorite watering-hole for Robert Preneta a very good boss from my Barnett Brass days, I had never been in this place myself. While it was raining, and challenging, it was as well, appealing. There were lots of people. That can be an asset, as well as a liability. Some people I recognized; others I did not. Thank God for lots of people. For starts---I had to get myself, and my scooter, out of the rain!! Initially, I had to have myself and my scooter ascend two crescent-shaped steps---and then a door threshold to get into the place. And i will add---with no hand-rails present and accounted for. What was sweet was that there were these three guys and these 2 women who just came out---like guardian angels, to help. Between getting the door, keeping me stable as I walker-wrangled and was shoulder-gripped up and through the entrance area, I was pleased to see my scooter was coming up right behind me~~~into Colter Bay!!

Once up and in, I am able to find a suitable staging area for SCOOTER & CO!! I was grateful for those whom stepped in to help, and I took the time to let them know that. Derrick S. was huge in running around getting food & drink for me. After some time it would be persons that I did not even know, who would offer to get me another drink or get me seconds on the banquet edibles. It was as if I was a quarterback calling a play-changing audible at the line-of-scrimmage; 12---19---26; hut, hut!! Somebody would be going wide-left for the food, and somebody would be going wide-right for the drinks!! But~~~wide-right was also going to be a huge undertaking later, when I would have to use the restroom. Typically, the restroom is in 'the-back'. This restroom, along with the restaurant, which is behind the lounge of Colter Bay, rests on a platform. Here again, a guardian-angel of a slighter-framed woman, whom I did not know from Adam, stepped up to the plate to run interference through the crowd for me and my scooter. Once at the platform, she helped me ascend that too, with my walker now in hand. She continued to stay with me with my walker in hand, to make sure I got into the restroom without any problems. And I must admit, it helped my ego immensely as she repeated more than a couple of times that I must possess incredible upper-body-strength.

Once the restroom break was effected, it was getting back to the lounge, and back to conversations. in due course of time the fundraising activity ceased and the crowd, thank God, did begin to thin out. The conversations were by-and-large small talk but a tid-bit from this one woman from City-Hall needs to be entered into this journal. I feel so because the juxtaposition constitutes a parallel-world coincidence. As all adults do, at some point pridefully, children are brought up in conversation. As this woman is providing a chronicle of her children, she comes to mentioning ELEKTRA. I gasped, and did an immediate~~~O M G!! The dramatic reaction was the result of the twist of Fate. It was just the day previous, Tuesday 11 October I was having this discussion about music groups in the 60's that had songs devoted to dance-sensations of the era. And one of my offerings in the discussion had to do with the "Freddie," and a local group that had gained some notoriety with this production effort. I had suggested that the local group name was either the INVICTAS, or the ELECTRAS. The next day, I'm discovering that Elektra is one of the daughters of this woman!!

Eventually, I had to leave. And yes, it is still raining outside. I must reflect as an anecdote. Maybe it is just that people, good Samaritans if you will, just help because they realize that they in short, can just walk away. I find it confounding though how people who don't even know me from Adam---just JUMP-IN and help. I don't see that at all, the closer to home that I get. As a matter-of-fact, by the time the documentary film director has his cameras zoomed to the master bedroom, one will observe that bed-side-manners---are non-existent.

As I am leaving, a bit of an entourage formulates around me as I walker my way to the door. While the City-Hall woman anchors the door to allow me to grip the handle and "work" the walker with my left-hand, this other woman grabs my left upper arm saying that she will help---her father has 'problems', too.

Once down the stairs, these two guys Greg and James carry my scooter out to me. Then they decide, in the rain, that they are going to make sure I get to my van without incident. I assured them that I "do-this-all-the-time". Lynn again repeats that she has to help her father and therefore is staying with me. So along comes Greg & James. It is a long wet walk from Allen St. to Virginia St. along Delaware Ave. When we get to my van and open the rear gate, I in due course of time take grip of the control-box that has the allows the ramp to hydraulically come out of the back. Lynn removes the control-box from my hand, assuring that she must help; that she does this all the time for her dad. I acquiesce. I mean---everybody is getting wet, so I am not going to argue. Once the scooter is up and in, I profusely thank all three and make my way into the vehicle. And of course, this just wows them!! This is because I have to do that 'power-lift' of my body---to get in.

For an evening that had me interacting with so many different people, and so many of these were for the first time, I felt while driving home, a---Rhapsody In The Rain!!
